Neighbourhood Guide | West Village, New York

Welcome to the West Village. Grab a coffee, take a slow walk and feel the city at its best.
After wrapping up at Day One of Shoppe Object in the Garrett Leight building, we made our way up to the High Line, an elevated green pathway that cuts through the west side of the city. You’re above the traffic, in step with the skyline, and for a few blocks, New York feels calm. The route cuts through to the Meatpacking District where we wandered around Ganesvoort and then into the West Village. It was late afternoon, the light dappled through tree-lined streets, and the pace and city sounds softened as soon as we hit the top of Bleecker.

There’s something about this part of the city, steeped in history but lived-in. Great shops, good food and the kind of corner spots you can imagine coming back to again and again.

Bleecker Street

We started at the top of Bleecker and worked our way down. Corridor is always a go-to for well-made staples, followed by Cubitts, and Ranger Station, which all sit within a few minutes of each other. We also popped into Aesop because we always do, just for their store fits alone.

4th Street

Just a block up along the stunning tree-lined Perry Street, with the most incredible Brown stone you hit 4th street, worth it alone to visit Toast and APC, but also the home to Sant Ambroeous a cute Italian corner spot, ideal for people watching.

L’Industrie Pizza

You can’t visit this neighbourhood without a quick stop for slices, eaten curbside. The burrata slice is a must. Crisp, light, made fresh, and gone in under five minutes. It never disappoints. Expect a queue but it always moves fast.

Happy Hour at L’Accolade

By 5pm, we were ready for a proper sit-down. We grabbed a seat by the window at L’Accolade and ordered vespers, olives, and devilled eggs. It’s a happy hour that doesn’t feel rushed, great drinks, low-key energy, and a playlist you’ll need to capture.

The Commerce Inn

The perfect spot for a candlelit dinner date or for a larger group. We went with friends for a birthday meal. Shaker simplicity, great drinks selection and incredible food all served family style. This spot came highly recommended and we cannot wait to revisit.

The West Village is always worth a visit. Especially in that window between late afternoon and early evening, when everything slows just enough to take it in.
